Study of Re:CREATORS 44: Lecture 7 continued

Lecture 7 continued

“…and cause everything to return to oblivion.”

“Now I want you to listen to a song. By Setsuna Shimazaki.

‘World Etude’;

The moonlight
Shines on the world

Just kidding.

That’s enough for now. What an evil look. This armor, so many lines. The puffy skirt just gets in the way during action scenes. And this weird rectangular part around the waist. Her hair is too long. It’s a pain to animate it. Especially when viewed from the back. She just looks like a light-blue ball of fur. Just like a mutated mop. If I may speak on behalf of the animation staff, this character was designed just to make their jobs difficult. It makes us question the sanity of the designer. We must reform this cunning and vicious character as soon as possible. Make her change into a track suit and sandals. I just can’t stop myself from wishing for this.”
“Well, then. I hope you enjoyed this intermission. However, since this episode was a replay of highlights from this show, I’m sure that some of you may be left feeling a little concerned about the future of this show. But please do not panic. ‘The quality is getting worse,’ or ‘the industry is in a crisis.’ People say things like that these days to sensationalize things. But that’s not our intention. This intermission was planned as a part of the broadcast, right from the beginning, so please don’t worry. Since this story has a large number of characters and a high density of elements in each frame, the expectations of the client are also high. Without an interval like this, the director and producer would end up as shriveled-up mummies before the second half even begins. Starting next episode, the show will resume in the normal format. Perhaps I may have said some inappropriate things or foreboding words today.”

There were meta references to the fictional entity Altair and to the “compilation” method, with remarks on the shallow-minded critics.

“Please don’t tell anyone. Ladies and gentlemen, please enjoy the rest of the show. Brought to you by the magician of the Kunst Wunderkammer, Meteora Osterreich. Farewell.”

A direct address is done from the fictional character Meteora within the fictional world to the real-world viewers, emphasizing the metafictional nature of the creation. An ending theme has also been specifically prepared for this episode.

The concept of this show is not to lead the viewers into the story world forgetting that this is a fiction, but let them fully aware of the fictionality of the work. Everything has been developed under full calculation. Most interesting is the role of Magane Chikujoin, a character who functions as a “wild card” in the story development. Whether her existence gains the viewers’ acceptance or not will be the critical issue.
