Study of Re:CREATORS 15: Lecture 4 continued

“Then in that case…”
Adding “o” to “traces” and swapping the order makes “creator”.
“The person that created her exists in this world somewhere.”

“What are you trying to say? You said that if we capture the god who created my world, and make him revise it, that my world would change.”

Alicetaria believed that the world’s problems will be solved if the Creator is forced to alter it.
She brings one in front of the Military Uniform Princess. “If this man is the root of all the struggle in this world, then this man is necessary to restore good to the world. That is the power of a god, the ‘Creator.’ Therefore, I made this man revise my world with his pen. However, nothing happened.”

What can a creator do, whose abilities are limited and who is immune to intimidation? What actions should be taken toward that God? Fictional characters are far more flawless and complete than the author.

In Ergo Proxy, actions taken by the created toward the Creator are interestingly depicted.

Alicetaria bears strong resentment toward the god who created her world as such.
Friedrich Nietzsche severely criticized this emotion in his existential philosophy.

“Furthermore, I could not return to my world. I must save my world from war. I must defeat forces of Unterwelt and retake the Five Great Cities. I have not time to waste here! It is your fault! How dare you create such a hellish world and use it for entertainment. Are you not ashamed? I deeply regret that I was created by someone like you!”

A middle-aged man wearing glasses says, “You can talk about justice all you want. Your morals are very direct. Why don’t you try enjoying this world a little more? I don’t often meet people like you. Hey, ‘Military Uniform Princess’.”

“You over there, do not interfere. Drunken bastard!”
“What did you just call me! Even my own daughter never talks to me like that.”

According to Nietzsche, it is the proof of human weakness to bear resentment against God who does not exist.

“Your Highness Alicetaria. I have not told a lie. The world is unexpectedly sturdy. Procedures are needed in any world. Disturb it enough, make it crumble and make it crack. Once you do that, the powers of the Creator will finally become clear. Therefore, I want you to disturb the common sense in this world. Alicetaria. That is exactly the world you must save is wishing for. You are going to save the world, right?”
The Military Uniform Princess encourages Alicetaria to interfere with this world.

“I shall tell you several ways to disturb the world. I already told you the story of what happened to the ‘Creations’ who left me. They were cowards, and couldn’t accept the revolution. They did not want to bear their responsibilities towards their own worlds. However, if someone tried to interfere with the wishes of those who have obtained the key to the world through their own will in order to attain peace in the world, what would you do?”
“I wouldn’t let anyone stand in the way of the will of my people.”
“I was hoping that’s what you would think. My role is to light the path and lead the way for people who don’t know this world exists and have no choice but to fight. For every story created in this world, there are people there at the mercy of the gods.”

Mamika and Alicetaria begin to talk.

The magical girl purchases “Mamika Curry” at a store.
Sharing meal, they have a talk.
“Just like that princess said, we’re characters from a story.”
“But I was happy when I saw this and ended up getting it.”
Alicetaria gets a plastic bag from Mamika.
Through conversation with Alicetaria, Mamika’s character description is deepened.
Characters are not subordinated to the story but interact with it and grow up. That is the most interesting part of this anime.

Intimate talk commences between Mamika and Alicetaria over meal.
“I wish we could eat curry with everyone someday… What the Military Uniform Princess said, … I wonder if we’re going to fight them again.”
Alicetaria replies, “If they oppose us, we shall raise our swords in battle. To save the world is my deepest wish. I will not forgive anyone who stands in my way.”
In spite of her former behavior, Mamika seems to be hesitant to fight, now.

New information reaches to Mr. Matsubara.
There is a telephone call from Studio Urban’s Masaaki Nakanogane.
“I hope you don’t think I’ve gone crazy or anything.”
Matsubara is quick to grasp the situation. “Are you talking about a character from your story?”

“Who appeared? Which character from which story came to see you?”
Along with Takashi Matsubara’s Spirit Fantasia Vogelchevalier, Rei Hiroe’s copies of Black Lagoon on the bookshelf. Another example of reference to reality from fictionality. The fictional world of Re:CREATORS includes parts of reality in it. This means that fictionality is larger than actuality as a possible world.

Nakanogane was the screenwriter of Monomagia: The Infinite Over Machine.
Along with a character from the story, the huge fighting machine Gigas Machina has materialized.

"Is Rui Kanoya there with you?"
“He’s eating lunch at my house.”
End of Episode 4.

Episode 5 Avan
Nakanogane notices something wrong in the anime they produced. It shows the Military Uniform Princess in it.
“What’s up with this character? Was she added later into the storyboards? No… They wouldn’t do that…. This is bad… Something is…. This is bad!”
The character from the anime Rui Kanoya appears in front of him.

Characters in fictional works in fictionality.
The glasses of the girl at the station and the glasses of Sota.

“It’s Selesia from Vogelchevalier. And you’re Meteora from Avalken. …I never even dreamed…. It’s really….”
Nakanogane acknowledges them.
“So that’s Rui Kanoya…. Did he have a personality like that? I’ve only seen a picture of him shouting.”
“Yes, his personality is like this.… I wrote him to be someone that gets defensive easily.”
Nakanogane described Rui Kanoya as a “snap back” type character.”

Rui asks, “Um…. Where are we? This place looks different from the Japan I’m from. Is this the past?”
“In the plot, you’re from the 22nd century …. so yeah, this would be the past….”
