Study of Re:CREATORS 7: Lecture 2

Lecture 2
Meteora, my favorite character has appeared.
What is the media she is depicted in, and what is the title of the work?
“Have you still not found your creator?”
Meteora seems to understand the situation of Altair’s activity.

Meteora’s missile attack — Homura Akemi?
The battle scene must be developed in Ryogoku town.
“Never mind. Even though you and I have both been transported here…”
Problems in English Translation
Japanese has very many homonyms
How should the word “Genkai” be scribed in Kanji Characters?

“Genkai” makes the main concept in the presentation of this fictional work.
There are some problems in translation considering the cultural difference.
The level of the Western fansubbing — Good job.
There are also some misunderstandings due to cultural background.
The issues concerning the understanding of Japanese homonym words.
A big significance of the research of subtitles.

Altair — “Chunibyou Phraseology”
“A glorious song requires the presence of all the players. I shall pay you another visit, Your Highness Selesia. I welcome you with all my heart.”

Characterization of Meteora — Her wording reflects high intelligence and her action indicates innocent curiosity

Meteora and Selesia are waiting in Sota’s room
End of Episode 1
I will remember everything that happened to me.

Ending roll
original story and character design: Rei Hiroe
configuration of the series: Ei Aoki and Rei Hiroe

There is a comicalized version based on the anime.
https://twitter.com/mackuro3/status/1317749902131163136

The credit of the anime says, “Original creator: Rei Hiroe”, so I thought it was based on the manga by him, but when I looked at the information on the manga version, it said “Comicalized from the anime”. It seems that Rei Hiroe and Ei Aoki collaborated on the anime production, and it was later made into a manga. The manga is drawn by a different artist, Daiki Kase.

Ending Bridge: shopping scene at a convenience store
They have picked up lots of goods in the shopping basket.
Research Issue: check out popular convenience store goods in 2017.
Meteora seems to be accustomed to shopping at several convenience stores.

Meteora’s flexible application performances.
Currency and payment systems.
The shopping was done at “Seven Mart”.
“As a student, that must have been a little expensive for you … but it’s a cheap price to pay for a proof.”
What is to be “proved”?
Meteora perceives things from a philosophical and metaphysical point.
What is Meteora’s job?

“If you still doubt the phenomenon just now…”
Japanese word “Jishou”: phenomenon
You have to guess the right word out of many homonyms when translating Japanese.
“The next thing to suspect is the presence of the employee and the existence of the store.
Meteora is referring to Descartes’ “doute methodique”.

“Or the possibility that your actions have dissociated from your cognition and are impossible to comprehend.”
Meteora shows her profound grasp for philosophical arguments.
“After that, we enter the realm of solipsism and ontology.”
Meteora is not only deeply interested in metaphysical arguments but also in enjoying eats in real life.

“…severe enough to prevent you from returning to social life. We are told by our delusions, and we have no choice but to do so.”
“Mousou-suru”: delusion
“mou sourusu”: have only to do so
Meteora understands otaku affairs and mental illness. But her pun is not so good.
