Study of Re:CREATORS 35: Lecture 7

Lecture 7

Lecture 7
episode 11
Both Meteora and Selesia are seriously injured and are being treated in hospital.
Their physical characteristics are the same as those of a real person, but they are more resilient.
“Please make sure that the results of these examination aren’t leaked.”
“No one except for the doctor in charge is allowed to see it. Don’t worry, Director Kikuchihara. These ‘Creations’ have the same body composition as humans, but their ability to recover is amazing.”
“Even so, they still feel pain the same as us. If only we were able to help more… Did you say that he had his power taken away?”
“Don’t talk so loud, Kikuchihara! He said he was beaten by Magane Chikujoin. I don’t know the details.”
“At least she isn’t working with Altair.”
“There’s no guarantee that that will stop the situation from getting worse. We can’t control her. So it’s even harder to deal with her.”

Marine comes. “Where’s Selesia and Meteora?”
“They’re both fine. They are asleep now.”
“I was so worried. What if …”
“It’s all thanks to the illustration you drew.”
“Where’s Yatoji?”
“He went home. He has a deadline.”
“I’m going to arrange for some guards, just in case. Excuse me.”
“I wonder if Yatoji knows what’s going on.”
“I have no idea. He breaks into a cold sweat when he has a deadline.”
“Me too.”
“Yeah, well, except for the extinction of mankind, deadlines are the scariest thing in the world.”
“You guys have no sense of urgency. Are all the gods like this?”
“Even if the world ends tomorrow, we still have to plant apple seeds today.”

In Neon Genesis Evangelion, Mr. Kaji said a similar thing, when he was taking care of his watermelons.

This anime carefully picks up scenes where fictional occurrences and real-world events crash together, and carefully depicts the details.
It is the main subject of this anime to describe fictional beings’ manifestation in the real world and required adjustment for it from the real world.
The identities of the characters are maintained, but some of their specific details that were not described in the original works have to be dealt with.

Selesia regains consciousness. “Where’s Meteora?”
“She’s fine. She’s sleeping in another room. This is a hospital. You have a stab wound to your stomach, so go back to sleep. You worry about your friends before yourself even when you almost died yourself.”
“What? You’re the one who made me with a personality like that!”
“You don’t have to point it out. Anyways, I’m glad you’re alive.”
“Hey. … Thanks.”
Selesia and her creator Matsubara deepen their understanding each other.

“What’re you saying? That’s not like you. Humility isn’t part of your character description!”
“Back then, I got a new weapon thanks to you. That’s why …”
Selesia’s clothes are stained and damaged. Usually, viewers are not supposed to care about the need of washing or repairing the costume characters wear in fictional stories, but now Selesia is in a real world. After materializing into the real world from the fictional world, various modifications are made according to the constraints required by its physical perspectives.
Modification of the setting, growth of the characters, and acceptance of the viewers are described in this anime.

“If you die, then I wouldn’t know how to write the rest of the story. … The thanks doesn’t belong to me. It belongs to everyone who saw my post. I was able to help you because everyone accepted that new design.”
Matsubara is aware that modifications made by the creators were accepted by the collected consciousness.
“‘It won’t become a story unless people identify with it.’ I think I finally understand the power of this world. Even if it was only for a short time I never thought it’d really appear. Hey, your story is really popular, isn’t it.”
“Well, my story isn’t the only popular one. Everyone likes stories.

In the Selesia’s line above, “appear” is adopted for translating her utterance of “Gugenka”, this is originally a Buddhist term usually translated “materialize.”

Abstract or spiritual entity may “materialize” in the actuality. For instance, the principle of “Trinity” supposed God, Holy Spirit and Jesus are the same entity in the plane, covariance between concepts and substances, between ideas and phenomena are premised. It may be inferred this applies between fictionality and reality as well.

“Do you dislike them?”
“I don’t dislike them. But we didn’t have many stories in my world.”
“That’s because I didn’t write them in.”
“Yeah, tell me about it.”
“Maybe I’ll try putting in some stories. I need to be careful not to mess up the story’s tempo. … I said I’ll put some stories in starting with the next volume.”
“Oh, everyone will be happy.”
“Do you want to go back? To that world.”
“Yes.”
“I see.”
“Sorry. … It must be hard in that world.”
“How can you talk about it like that? You’re the one who made it.”
