Study of Re:CREATORS 41: Lecture 7 continued

“Yeah. If the readers don’t think it’s interesting, then the story ends, even if it’s still in the middle. That’s what they call ‘getting cancelled.’”
“Is that so? Then put your life on the line to draw something interesting.”
“You, it’s not that easy. That’s no line for a knight of justice.”
“Of course. As long as there are readers like that boy who believe in me, then you must do it.”
“Oh, I see. So that’s how you smile. I forgot about it.”

The author is most afraid of cancellation. Here, the fictional creation is encouraging the author.
“What are you going to do after letting me go?”
“If you’re the creator, then you would know what I’m going to do.”

Meteora and others are talking of their plan.
Matsubara says, “But according to logic, it’s not impossible.
“It’s a death match.”
“Not bad. Honestly, I’m excited.”
“If you let me go full-throttle with Gigas Machina, then I’m all for it.”
“Me too. As long as I can off that old guy and that foxy-eyed girl, I can’t complain.”

“However, in order to revise the powers of the creations, we need the approval of the viewers. In order for everyone to gather in the story world, and face off against Altair, we need a plot and a story that allow seamless crossover of the world views from different stories.”
“If we’re going to do that, then first we need to sort out the publishing rights of each of the stories, and get the publishers to work together.”
“Yeah. In order to make a story that gets the approval of the viewers, we need to get writers like us, the editors, and the Public Relations departments to work together.”
“A bird cage for confining Altair. We must create a strong cage, rapidly increase the approval of the viewers, and increase our own strength. In order to create such a situation, we need a big event…”

In order to cope with the character in secondary creation, they are going to unify the official existing works, together with supporting staff and relating managements. This kind of trials for integration have been already done in some game works and in several movies. Fictionality tends to blend and evolve. If generation of events in real world is affected by the drive of consciousness, the universe must be provided with a teleological inducement. This is the conclusion of my study of fantasy literature, Fantasy as Antifantasy.

Stories with plural main characters each of whom endowed with different world settings and specific existentiality are created in a new perspective that covers all of them. This indicates the autonomous evolution process of fiction. The German Romantics were keenly aware of the function of fictionality that affects cosmological foundation. They eagerly sought for eternal truth through speculation of fictionality. For instance, E. T. A. Hoffmann, an enthusiastic lover of opera, created speculative fairytales such as “The Golden Pot”, “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” and “Princess Brambilla”, in all of which dream and reality are connected together.

Meteora concludes, “It all depends on whether we can create a high-pressure live situation. The outcome will be decided by this.”
“An event… The bigger the better. We must act fast to find a venue.”
“It’s a battle to decide the fate of the world, and we’re going to make a show of it? It’s not even funny.”
Yuya concludes, “It started with a story, so we have to end it with a story too.

“How much time do we have?”
“I don’t know. I don’t know if new Creations are going to appear or what Altair is going to do to destroy the pillar of the world.”

Here, Japanese word “kubiki” is translated “pillar”, which is what I was not able to catch before. literal translation of this word may give “yoke” or “restraint”.

“Depending on those factors, our time limit will change.
“But still, we have no time to waste.”
“Of course. We must continue to search for new creations, and continue to suppress Altair. We can buy time before the world is destroyed.”
“No matter how much we hurry, it’s going to take at least three months.”
“Altair’s strength is tremendous. She possesses the weapon of feedback. She is a formidable opponent. In order to defeat her, we need a stronger plot and story progression. Let’s set a limit of six months and start working on it. Kikuchihara, we need your help, and the help of the government.”

In Re:CREATORS, Altair, the character who represents the tragedy of her creator Setsuna Shimazaki seems to play the role of the absolute evil that brings forth disaster , her vengeance functioning as a threat to the whole world. But there is no practical way to defeat her in battle but somehow confine her in a story. What is needed is a persuasive fiction setting that is able to include all the conditions in a meaningful story development.
A new cultural attempt is now about to be started, that will comprehensively incorporate crises manifested through myths and legends.
